GitHub reopens self-serve sign-ups for Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max and Student
GitHub lifted the April 2026 pause on new individual Copilot sign-ups. The plans page again shows a self-serve Get started button on Free, Pro, Pro+ and Max.
Every paid individual tier carried the banner 'New plan sign-ups are temporarily paused as we ensure a high-quality experience'; docs warned that from April 20, 2026 new sign-ups for Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max and student plans were paused and only existing plans could be upgraded.
No pause banner on any tier. Free ($0), Pro ($10 USD/user/mo), Pro+ ($39 USD/user/mo) and Max ($100 USD/user/mo) each show a self-serve Get started button, and the docs 'temporarily paused' notice has been removed.
Proof of change
GitHub Copilot's pricing pages, as we captured them on two dates.
Showing the whole page as captured — scroll either panel, or open it at full size.
- These prices come from our capture alone — they were not confirmed against an independent second source.
- 2 pages had no counterpart in the earlier capture and are not shown.
Both images are our own captures, taken on the dates shown. The pixels are unmodified — nothing is retouched, and where a region is highlighted the marker is drawn over the image, not into it. Open either capture to see it at full resolution.
GitHub paused new sign-ups for its paid individual Copilot plans on April 20, 2026, days before announcing the migration from premium requests to GitHub AI Credits. The pause banner was still on every paid tier of the plans page on June 2, 2026, and the individual-plans doc carried a matching “Important” notice.
Both are gone. Prices are unchanged — Free $0, Pro $10 USD per user/month, Pro+ $39 USD per user/month, Max $100 USD per user/month, with $15 / $70 / $200 of monthly total AI credits respectively — so this is a distribution change rather than a price change: the product-led self-serve funnel that built Copilot’s individual base is open again, after roughly two months in which only existing customers could move between tiers.
GitHub lifted the April 20, 2026 pause on new individual sign-ups. The 'New plan sign-ups are temporarily paused' banner is present in June 2, 2026 captures and gone from every capture since June 29, the matching docs notice was removed, and Free, Pro, Pro+ and Max each show a self-serve Get started button again. No price moved — Free $0, Pro $10, Pro+ $39, Max $100 — so this reopens distribution rather than repricing it.
