Exa made two notable moves to its usage-based AI search pricing without touching its core per-1k-request endpoint rates.

The free tier grew 20×, from 1,000 to 20,000 requests per month, lowering the barrier to evaluation while the $10 onboarding credit and $7/month carded-account credits stay in place.

The Agent endpoint was restructured: a new Minimal fixed-effort mode was added at $0.012/request (now the headline floor), the X-high mode was halved from $2.00 to $1.00/request, Agent Compute Units are now metered at $0.10/ACU, and in-agent search tool calls dropped from $0.007 to $0.005/search. Core endpoints — Search ($7/1k), Deep Search ($12–15/1k), Contents ($1/1k pages), Monitors ($15/1k), and Answer ($5/1k) — held steady.
