Exa expands free tier to 20,000 requests/month and recuts Agent pricing
Exa raised its free tier from 1,000 to 20,000 requests per month and repriced the Agent endpoint: headline range now /bin/bash.012–.00/run, X-high cut from .00 to .00, plus a new /bin/bash.012 Minimal mode.
Free tier 1,000 requests/mo; Agent /bin/bash.025–.00/run (Low–X-high), Agent Compute Units /bin/bash.0001/ACU, in-agent search /bin/bash.007/search.
Free tier 20,000 requests/mo; Agent /bin/bash.012–.00/run with a new Minimal mode (/bin/bash.012), X-high .00, Agent Compute Units /bin/bash.10/ACU, in-agent search /bin/bash.005/search. Core endpoints (Search , Deep 2–15, Contents , Monitors 5, Answer ) unchanged.
Exa made two notable moves to its usage-based AI search pricing without touching its core per-1k-request endpoint rates.
The free tier grew 20×, from 1,000 to 20,000 requests per month, lowering the barrier to evaluation while the 0 onboarding credit and /month carded-account credits stay in place.
The Agent endpoint was restructured: a new Minimal fixed-effort mode was added at /bin/bash.012/request (now the headline floor), the X-high mode was halved from .00 to .00/request, Agent Compute Units are now metered at /bin/bash.10/ACU, and in-agent search tool calls dropped from /bin/bash.007 to /bin/bash.005/search. Core endpoints — Search (/1k), Deep Search (2–15/1k), Contents (/1k pages), Monitors (5/1k), and Answer (/1k) — held steady.
The free tier jumped from 1,000 to 20,000 requests per month. The Agent endpoint was repriced: the headline range moved from $0.025–$2.00 to $0.012–$1.00 per run, a new Minimal fixed-effort mode ($0.012/request) was added, X-high dropped from $2.00 to $1.00, Agent Compute Units are now $0.10/ACU, and in-agent search tool calls fell from $0.007 to $0.005/search. Core endpoint rates (Search $7, Deep $12-15, Contents $1, Monitors $15, Answer $5) held steady.
