Heptabase ships on-demand pay-as-you-go AI credit overage
Heptabase now lets any paid tier enable on-demand usage with a user-set monthly spending limit, so extra AI credit consumption is billed pay-as-you-go instead of forcing a full tier upgrade.
No way to buy extra AI credits; Heptabase's help center listed add-on credit purchases as "on our roadmap," so running out of a tier's monthly allowance meant upgrading an entire tier (Pro to Premium to Premium+).
Under Settings → AI Features, users on Pro, Premium, or Premium+ can turn on on-demand usage and set a monthly spending limit. Included monthly credits are consumed first; pay-as-you-go billing only begins once they run out. Base tier prices are unchanged at $8.99 / $17.99 / $53.99 per month billed yearly ($11.99 / $23.99 / $71.99 monthly).
Heptabase’s pricing FAQ previously stated that buying extra AI credits was not yet possible and was “on our roadmap.” The August 2026 capture of the same help-center article shows this has shipped as a self-serve “on-demand usage” toggle: once a plan’s included monthly credit allowance is exhausted, a user-set monthly spending limit lets usage continue on a pay-as-you-go basis rather than requiring an upgrade to the next tier. The change is additive — Pro, Premium, and Premium+ list prices and included credit allowances (100 / 1,800 / 8,100 per month) are unchanged.
Heptabase added a self-serve overage mode: under Settings -> AI Features, any paid tier (Pro, Premium, Premium+) can set a monthly spending limit and keep using AI once included credits run out, billed pay-as-you-go instead of requiring a full tier upgrade. Base tier prices and included-credit allowances are unchanged.
