Kimi K2.5 and the entire moonshot-v1 API family are officially retired

Moonshot AI pricing

Moonshot retired Kimi K2.5 and the moonshot-v1 model family on August 31, 2026; calls to either now return a 404 error, leaving K3, K2.7 Code and K2.6 as the only priced models.

Before

Kimi K2.5 priced at $0.60 in / $3.00 out (cache-hit $0.10); moonshot-v1-8k/-32k/-128k priced at $0.20/$2.00, $1.00/$3.00 and $2.00/$5.00 per 1M tokens

After

Both families retired 2026-08-31 — calls return a 404 (model not found) error; only Kimi K3, K2.7 Code and K2.6 remain on the live price card

Moonshot’s API docs now state plainly: “The kimi-k2.5 and moonshot-v1 series were officially retired on August 31, 2026. Calls to these models now return a 404 (model not found) error. Please migrate to kimi-k3 or other latest models.” The dedicated pricing sub-pages for both families (/docs/pricing/chat-k25 and /docs/pricing/chat-v1) now redirect to the API docs’ Model List page instead of showing a rate card, and neither model appears in the Model Pricing sidebar (which now lists only K3, K2.7 Code, K2.6, and Other).

This closes the loop on the moonshot-v1 sunset flagged back on 2026-07-21 (/blueprint/activity/moonshot-ai-2026-07-21-moonshot-v1-sunset) — the “scheduled” retirement is now confirmed effective — and adds a previously-undisclosed casualty: Kimi K2.5, which had been the platform’s cheapest model and its deepest context-caching discount example ($0.10/M cache-hit). Migration is not price-neutral: moonshot-v1-8k users lose the cheapest input rate Moonshot ever published ($0.20/M) and land on a rate roughly 4.75x higher on the nearest live model, while moonshot-v1-128k users move to a model with double the context at a lower output rate. Either way, both retired families are now gone from the price card with no dedicated migration mapping published.

Kimi K2.5 and moonshot-v1 officially retired; both now 404

Moonshot's API docs confirm the moonshot-v1 sunset flagged 2026-07-21 took effect on schedule and disclose an undisclosed second casualty: 'The kimi-k2.5 and moonshot-v1 series were officially retired on August 31, 2026. Calls to these models now return a 404 (model not found) error.' Kimi K2.5 — the cheapest model in the Kimi K-series line and the holder of the platform's lowest published cache-hit rate ($0.10/M) — was never named in the original sunset notice. Both dedicated pricing sub-pages now redirect to a generic Model List doc, and neither model appears on the live Model Pricing nav (K3, K2.7 Code, K2.6, Other only).
