Poe cuts Free tier's daily compute-points allowance by ~90%

Poe’s Free tier’s daily compute-points allowance dropped from ~3,000 points/day to ~300 points/day — a roughly 90% cut — around 2026-03-30. Poe published no changelog entry, help-center update, or announcement for the change; its current FAQ (help.poe.com) no longer states an exact daily figure for free users at all, saying only that “non-paying users receive points daily, which reset at the end of each 24-hour period. Points do not roll over.”

The date and magnitude come from three independently operated, non-Poe-affiliated sources that converge on the new number: carletontorpin.com, which documents the change as a dated update (“Update (March 2026): As of approximately March 30, 2026, free Poe users receive 300 compute points per day, which is lower than the previous amount of 3,000 free compute points per day… a reduction of 90%”); toolchase.com (“Poe has a free tier that provides about 300 compute points per day, enough for light use of budget models”); and appliedai.tools (“It gives you 300 compute points per day and these reset every day”). No source of any kind still lists 3,000/day as current in 2026.

At ~300 points/day, a free account gets roughly 15-30 short messages before the daily allowance resets — enough to sample the product but not to sustain regular use, likely pushing casual users toward Poe’s $4.99/mo or $19.99/mo paid tiers faster than the prior allowance did. This is Poe’s first of two entitlement-only resizes identified in 2026: the $19.99/mo Premium plan’s monthly allowance was separately cut 34% (1,000,000 to 660,000 points) on 2026-07-28, also without a price change — a repeated pattern of adjusting the meter rather than the sticker price.
