xAI shipped three separate meter changes on the same day.
The sharpest is X Search: from 12:00 PM PT on 21 September 2026 it stops billing a flat $5 per 1,000 calls and starts billing $5 per 1,000 posts fetched plus $10 per 1,000 user profiles fetched. The docs are explicit that “every post returned by a search or thread fetch, including parent and quoted posts, counts” — so cost now scales with how much the agent pulls back, not how many times it asks. A single broad thread fetch that used to cost a fraction of a cent can now return dozens of billable posts, and profile lookups are priced at double the post rate.
On the model side, grok-4.6 replaces grok-4.5 as the flagship at the same $2.00 input / $6.00 output per 1M tokens (500k context), but its cached-input rate is $0.50 rather than grok-4.5’s $0.30 — the first time a newer xAI flagship has charged more for a cache hit. grok-4.5 remains on the rate card at the old cached rate. A new US regional endpoint (https://us.api.x.ai/v1) bills token usage at 1.1x global rates, making data residency a 10% line item; it currently supports grok-4.6 only.
The consumer app gained a rung: SuperGrok Plus at $100/month, sitting between SuperGrok ($30) and the still-unpriced SuperGrok Heavy, and selling 1080p video creation, significantly higher usage across Chat, Imagine, Voice and Build, and priority access at peak times. Grok 4.6 replaces Grok 4.5 across every plan, and Grok Bot appears as a new plan-comparison row, checked on SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus and SuperGrok Heavy only. (Video generation remains unavailable on Free, as it was in the 2026-08-04 capture — that exclusion is not new.) Elsewhere the cheaper realtime voice model (grok-voice-think-fast-1.0, $0.05/min) disappeared, leaving only grok-voice-think-fast-2.0 at $0.08/min.

The Voice API's cheaper grok-voice-think-fast-1.0 ($0.05/min) is gone, leaving only grok-voice-think-fast-2.0 at $0.08/min, and Imagine gains grok-imagine-image-2.0 with a Low/Medium quality ladder from $0.04 to $0.08 per image while grok-imagine-image-quality is scheduled for retirement on 2 Nov 2026.
