Personio retires Conversations and replaces it with the Personio Assistant at no additional cost
Personio is withdrawing the paid Conversations app — access is removed after 30 June 2026 or the customer's renewal date, whichever comes first — and transitioning every customer to the AI-based Personio Assistant, which Personio states is 'included at no additional cost'. A paid SKU is being converted into a free, included AI feature.
Personio Conversations was a purchasable app in the Employee Experience group, sold in two sizes (Lite and Standard; earlier Standard and Premium), with the Premium/Standard step buying 'Knowledge automation' — an AI that answers repetitive employee questions automatically. It appeared as a selectable line in Personio's own public cost calculator until 2023 and in the apps grid on the plans page as late as 21 June 2025.
Conversations is gone from the marketing apps grid. Its replacement, the Personio Assistant, 'uses the latest AI technology to help employees find answers and reduce HR tickets' and is 'included at no additional cost'. Conversations access is removed after 30 June 2026 or the customer's renewal date, whichever comes first.
Personio states the deprecation verbatim in its Overview of Personio plans and apps help-centre article: “We’re retiring Personio Conversations and transitioning all customers to the Personio Assistant. … Conversations remains available until 30 June 2026, or your renewal date, whichever comes first. We’ll remove access after that date. The Personio Assistant is included at no additional cost.” The article was last revised 2026-09-04.
The commercially interesting part is the direction of travel. Conversations was a paid, tiered app whose upper tier was sold on AI — the legacy catalogue describes Conversations Premium as the tier that buys “Knowledge automation … Personio Conversation’s AI automatically answers repetitive questions and refers to the relevant documentation”. Its replacement does the same job with better models and is given away. Personio’s help centre created Overview of Personio Assistant on 2025-11-25, and Manage Personio Assistant as early as 2025-03-20, so the Assistant had been shipping for roughly a year before the retirement notice landed.
Read alongside the AI Credits launch six weeks later, this is a two-sided repricing of AI at Personio in the same quarter: the conversational AI that used to be a paid tier became free and bundled, while a new class of agentic AI (starting with the Talent Screening Agent) became separately metered and billed per credit. Personio did not raise the price of AI overall so much as move where the meter sits.
By the time /pricing/ was archived on 2026-04-17, Conversations had already disappeared from the marketing apps grid — the “most popular apps” row lists Recruiting, Surveys, Performance & development and Compensation management, and the compliance row lists Whistleblowing, Premium Support and the Xero Integration. It survives in the help centre’s plans-and-apps table as “Conversations – Lite” and “Conversations – Standard” with the retirement notice attached.
