Gusto raises the Simple plan base fee from $40/mo to $49/mo
Gusto's entry tier base fee went up 22.5%, from $40/mo to $49/mo, with the $6/mo per-person rate unchanged. Plus and Premium base fees were untouched. This is the only straight list-price increase in Gusto's public pricing history since the July 2022 replatforming.

Between the 20 February 2025 and 10 April 2025 archive captures, Gusto’s Simple plan base fee moved from $40/mo to $49/mo — a 22.5% increase. The per-person rate did not move: it is $6/mo before and after. Neither Plus nor Premium changed.
This is the only clean list-price increase Gusto has made publicly since the July 2022 replatforming, and it is unusual in landing on the entry tier. Simple is where price sensitivity is highest and switching cost lowest — a two-person business on Simple was paying $52/mo and is now paying $61/mo, a 17% jump on the total bill.
The increase also widened the step to Plus in absolute terms but narrowed it proportionally: the Simple-to-Plus base gap fell from $40 to $31, while the multi-state capability that forces the upgrade stayed exactly where it was put in 2022.
Around the same period Gusto rebuilt the pricing page. The old headline “Flexible plans and features. Honest pricing. No hidden fees.” and the standing 25%-off promotions on Plus and Premium are both gone by the 2 August 2025 capture, replaced by “Simple, transparent pricing” over undiscounted plan cards.
The 20 February 2025 snapshot shows Simple at $40/mo plus $6/mo per person. By 10 April 2025 the base is $49/mo, a 22.5% increase, with the per-person rate unchanged at $6/mo. Plus and Premium base fees are untouched.
