Workable introduces a Pay As You Go plan at $50 per job, per month
Workable replaced its job-slot ladder with a named Pay As You Go tier billed at $50 per job per month, the first time a single job posting became the whole unit of purchase rather than a slot inside a subscription.
The 2016-04-16 pricing page sold Starter / Standard / Enterprise on a job-slot ladder — monthly $39, $89, $129, $199, $299 and $399, or annual $390, $890, $1,290, $1,990, $2,990 and $3,990 — with the note that annual plans are billed up front and include 12 months for the price of 10.
The 2017-09-04 pricing page leads with a Pay As You Go card described as 'A flexible, pay-as-you-go plan, $50 per job, per month, billed monthly,' with Starter above it as 'Everything in Pay As You Go plus.'
Workable’s original model was a job-slot ladder: you bought a plan sized by how many jobs you could have open at once, and the rungs of the ladder were the price points. The 2016-04-16 Internet Archive capture shows six of them on the monthly toggle and six matching annual prices, plus the sentence that has quietly survived ten years of repackaging — annual plans “include 12 months for the price of 10.”
By the 2017-09-04 capture the ladder had a new bottom step with a different shape. Pay As You Go was not a smaller plan; it was a different unit. The card reads “A flexible, pay-as-you-go plan, $50 per job, per month, billed monthly,” which prices the posting itself rather than a slot allowance, and the tiers above it are defined relative to it (“Everything in Pay As You Go plus”).
The exact introduction date is unverified. The change is bounded between the 2016-04-16 and 2017-09-04 captures of workable.com/pricing; Workable published no announcement that the Internet Archive retains.
This matters for what came later. Workable spent roughly seven years selling recruiting on a job meter — the thing a recruiting team controls — before switching the base meter to company headcount, which it does not.
