Workday retires the Illuminate AI brand, leaving Flex Credits as the AI packaging story
The Workday Illuminate logo and product paragraph disappeared from workday.com's AI hub between 13 January and 2 February 2026; by 18 April only an orphaned CSS class remained.
Workday Illuminate was announced on 2024-09-17 as “the next generation of Workday AI”. Archived copies of workday.com/en-us/artificial-intelligence.html show it becoming the organising brand of the AI hub through 2024 and 2025, peaking at 16 on-page references in February and September 2025.
The retirement is visible in the page source. On 2026-01-13 the hub still carried the Workday Illuminate logo asset and the sentence “Workday Illuminate is the AI engine that powers our products and AI agents”. On 2026-02-02 both the logo and the paragraph are gone. Three vestigial references (a navigation blurb, a video aria-label and a layout CSS class) survived to 2026-03-22; by 2026-04-18 only the CSS class named illuminateCrop remained, and it was still there on 2026-08-22.
Across every Workday pricing, legal and product surface reviewed on 2026-09-10, the word Illuminate does not appear once. The AI packaging story is now Workday Flex Credits, launched 2025-09-16.
This is a packaging signal rather than a price move: an enterprise vendor whose AI brand was replaced by its AI pricing mechanic in roughly fifteen months.
The Workday Illuminate logo and the 'Workday Illuminate is the AI engine that powers our products and AI agents' paragraph are removed from workday.com's AI hub between 13 January and 2 February 2026. Three vestigial references survive to 22 March; by 18 April only an orphaned CSS class remains. Flex Credits is the surviving AI packaging story.
