SendGrid's forever-free plan became a 60-day trial

Twilio pricing

The SendGrid Email API plan grid replaced its perpetual free plan (100 emails a day, no credit card, no commitment) with a 60-day free trial, removing the last forever-free plan in the Twilio portfolio.

Before

Free — $0/mo — 'Send 100 emails/day for free' — 'No credit card, no commitment.' A perpetual plan on the Email API plan grid alongside Essentials from $19.95/mo, Pro from $89.95/mo and Premier custom.

After

Free Trial — $0/mo for 60 days — 'Send 100 emails/day'. Essentials, Pro and Premier unchanged at $19.95/mo, $89.95/mo and custom.

SendGrid’s free plan had been a fixture of its pricing page for the best part of a decade — “100 emails/day forever” in the 2022 wording, “Send 100 emails/day for free… No credit card, no commitment” in the January 2025 wording. The 1 March 2025 archived snapshot still carried it. By 4 April 2025 the card had been relabelled “Free Trial” and time-boxed to 60 days.

The paid tiers did not move: Essentials remains “Starting $19.95/mo” for 50,000 to 100,000 emails a month and Pro “Starting at $89.95/mo” for 100,000 to 2,500,000. Essentials had itself risen from $14.95 to $19.95 between January 2022 and June 2023.

The effect on the wider portfolio is that Twilio no longer has a perpetual free plan anywhere. What remains are trial credits (the Voice page notes $15 of trial credit to buy a number and test Voice) and recurring per-product free allowances — the first 100 TaskRouter tasks a month, the first 10,000 Functions invocations, the first 1,000 Engagement Suite messages a month, and 5,000 free Flex active user hours for new Flex accounts.
