What is it
Mid-Market SaaS Pricing is pricing aimed at mid-market companies — typically a hybrid of self-serve onboarding and sales-assisted upgrades, with SSO and advanced admin.
It is the transition band between SMB self-serve and enterprise sales-led: a company big enough to need SSO, roles, and invoicing, but not so big that every term is bespoke. 235 of the in-corpus AI companies address this segment — the widest of the six segment bands — usually with a published “Business” or “Team” tier plus a “contact us” path for volume and security.
Vercel and Intercom are representative. Vercel’s Pro plan is $20/month plus metered usage; the mid-market unlock is SAML SSO and SCIM, which sit behind a sales conversation rather than on the card-only Pro tier. Intercom runs a hybrid seat-plus-outcome model ($29–$132/seat plus $0.99 per Fin AI resolution), its published tiers letting a growing team self-serve into Advanced before enterprise terms are negotiated. Either way the buyer starts self-serve, then a sales-assist motion unlocks the controls a scaling company needs.
Mid-market pricing solves a routing problem: the SMB Team plan lacks the controls (SSO, audit, invoicing) while the enterprise process is too heavy for a 200-person buyer. A well-designed mid-market tier keeps acquisition cheap while capturing the security-and-scale revenue that would otherwise force a full sales cycle.
How it works
Mid-market pricing is defined less by a single price point than by a combination of levers. The band sits above the SMB Team plan and below the custom enterprise contract, and vendors tune four dials to fit it.
| Lever | Mid-market choice | Corpus example |
|---|---|---|
| Motion | Self-serve onboarding + sales-assist for the upgrade | Vercel — Pro on a card, SSO behind sales |
| Unit | Per seat (published), with volume/SSO behind a quote | Linear — Business $16/user/mo |
| Admin | SSO, advanced roles, invoicing — the IT-grade tier | GitHub Copilot — Business $19/user/mo, pooled credits |
| Billing | Card or invoice; annual increasingly common | Notion AI — Business $20/seat/mo, ~20% off annual |
The published “Business” tier is the canonical mid-market unit. Linear prices Basic at $10/user/month and Business at $16/user/month (billed yearly), with Enterprise custom-quoted above it — a clean four-rung ladder where the third rung is the mid-market SKU. Notion AI mirrors this: Free ($0), Plus ($10/seat), Business ($20/seat), Enterprise custom — and it deliberately built the Business tier around AI, bundling the feature that pulls teams up a rung.
Unit math: A 25-person team on Notion AI Business pays 25 × $20 = $500/month before annual discount, plus $10 per 1,000 Notion credits for advanced agents. The same team on Linear Business pays 25 × $16 = $400/month billed yearly. Neither forces an enterprise contract — but both gate SSO and advanced admin at or above that rung.
For infrastructure vendors the “unit” changes shape. Instead of a seat tier, mid-market shows up as the first committed-capacity rung. Modal’s Team plan is $250/month + $100 credits — its only mid-tier SKU between the $0 Starter and quote-based Enterprise. Together AI prices dedicated GPUs at $6.49/hr on-demand and $3.59/hr reserved, so the mid-market decision is the move from serverless per-token to a reserved commitment — the same Reserved-Instance logic cloud computing uses, not seat laddering.
Companies using this
235 companies in the current corpus address the mid-market — nearly the whole corpus, since almost every vendor wants some path to serve 50-to-500-person buyers. Representative examples pair a published higher tier with a sales-assist door: Vercel, Intercom, Linear, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and Notion AI, alongside the inference clouds (Together AI, RunPod, Modal) that move mid-market buyers from on-demand to reserved capacity. The table below lists each company, its pricing model, and whether it offers a free tier.
Patterns observed
Across the 235 mid-market companies, a few structural patterns recur regardless of category.
-
The “Business” tier is the mid-market unit. It is the rung above Team: published, but with SSO and a sales-assist door. Linear (Business $16/user/mo), Notion AI (Business $20/seat/mo), and GitHub Copilot (Business $19/user/mo) all name this tier literally, and in each case it is the second-from-top plan below a custom Enterprise SKU.
-
SSO is the canonical unlock. The move from SMB to mid-market pricing is most consistently triggered by the need for SAML SSO and advanced admin. Vercel withholds SAML SSO and SCIM from the card-only Pro plan and uses it to gate the sales-assisted tier — a pricing decision dressed as a security feature. It is the single lever the corpus uses most often to define where mid-market begins.
-
Motion blends rather than switches. Mid-market keeps self-serve onboarding but adds light sales-assist — it is exactly where self-serve and sales-led motions overlap. Cursor lets a team start on Pro ($20/mo) and step up to Teams ($40/user) self-serve, with Enterprise custom above — the buyer never has to talk to sales until they want volume terms.
-
Reserved capacity is the infra mid-market. For compute vendors the mid-market SKU is a commitment, not a seat bundle. Modal’s Team plan ($250/mo + $100 credits) and Together AI’s reserved-GPU rate ($3.59/hr vs $6.49/hr dedicated) are the on-ramps to enterprise committed-use discounts — mirroring cloud’s Reserved-Instance model rather than traditional SaaS laddering.
-
AI gets bundled to justify the rung. Several vendors folded AI into the mid-market tier to raise its value and its price. Notion AI retired its standalone $8–$10/member AI add-on and rebuilt Business ($20/seat) as the “AI workspace” tier; GitLab bundles $12/user in monthly Duo credits into Premium. The Business tier increasingly carries the AI story.
Counterexamples & variants
The clearest counterexample is the vendor with no distinct mid-market tier at all. Many developer APIs and pure-usage products jump straight from self-serve consumption to a fully bespoke enterprise contract, with nothing tailored in between. For a pure per-token or per-GPU-hour API that is fine — a mid-market buyer simply consumes more at the same public rate, and there is no seat ladder to climb. RunPod, for instance, prices GPUs by the hour (H100 $2.89/hr, RTX 4090 $0.69/hr) with no “Business plan” in sight; the segment is served by volume, not by a SKU.
A second variant is mid-market via committed capacity rather than a seat tier: the compute vendors above express the rung as a reserved resource at a lower per-unit rate instead of a seat bundle. Modal’s docs even describe its Team plan as a “committed mid-market” SKU — a rare place where the mid-market plan is a capacity commitment, not a seat count.
The gated-pricing edge case is worth flagging too. Glean sells to mid-market and enterprise but publishes no dollar figure at all — third-party trackers estimate roughly $45–50/user/month plus a ~$15 AI add-on with a ~100-seat minimum, but there is no self-serve on-ramp. When the entire pricing page is “contact sales,” the mid-market buyer gets the enterprise motion whether they want it or not, which is precisely the friction a published Business tier is meant to remove. Metronome, acquired by Stripe in January 2026, is another gated example: Starter and Custom plans only, no published mid-market rate.
What this means for buyers vs vendors
For buyers
If you need SSO, roles, and invoicing but not a bespoke contract, ask for the published Business tier and a light sales-assist rather than defaulting to the full enterprise motion — you will move faster and often pay a list rate. The second-from-top plan is usually card-payable before you ever talk to sales, so compare those directly. For infrastructure, the first committed-use tier is where the discount starts, so model your steady-state usage before committing. Our guide to choosing the right usage metric helps you sanity-check whether a seat or a usage meter better reflects your real consumption, and the pricing calculator lets you estimate a mid-market bill before the sales call.
For vendors
Do not make mid-market buyers choose between a too-small Team plan and a heavyweight enterprise process. Ship a published Business tier with SSO and a “contact us” door for volume — capture the segment with self-serve onboarding plus sales-assist, the way Vercel and Cursor do. Decide deliberately which feature gates the rung (SSO is the corpus default) and whether AI belongs in the bundle, as Notion AI chose when it rebuilt Business as the AI tier. If you sell infrastructure, express the mid-market SKU as a committed-capacity discount rather than forcing seat semantics onto a usage product. Start with our introduction to usage-based pricing and the entitlements and usage-grants guide to structure what the Business tier includes before it hits a sales quote.

FAQ
What is mid-market SaaS pricing?
Pricing aimed at mid-market companies — usually a hybrid of self-serve onboarding and sales-assisted upgrades, with SSO and advanced admin. It is the transition band between SMB self-serve and enterprise sales-led: a buyer can start on a card but needs a conversation to unlock security and scale.
Why is mid-market called the 'squeezed middle'?
Because it is pulled both ways — too big for a pure self-serve Team plan (it needs SSO, roles, and invoicing) but too small for a fully bespoke enterprise contract. Vendors serve it with a published 'Business' tier that mixes list pricing with a light sales-assist door.
What unlocks the move from SMB to mid-market pricing?
Usually SSO, advanced admin and roles, invoicing instead of card, and volume — the point where a growing team needs IT-grade controls. That trigger introduces a sales-assist motion on top of self-serve onboarding.
How much do mid-market SaaS plans cost?
The mid-market rung is typically the second-from-top published tier. Examples from the corpus: Linear Business is $16/user/month, Notion Business is $20/seat/month, GitHub Copilot Business is $19/user/month, and HeyGen Business is $149/month plus $20 per extra seat.
Do infrastructure vendors have a mid-market tier?
Yes, but it usually looks like committed capacity rather than a seat bundle. Modal's Team plan ($250/month + $100 credits) and Together AI's reserved-GPU rates ($3.59/hr reserved versus $6.49 dedicated) are the mid-market rungs for compute — the on-ramp to enterprise committed-use discounts.
